SGA Recommends Tatango for Student Orgs

    Why Does SGA Recommend Tatango?

Tatango offers student organizations an easy way to communicate internally. It saves times, helps ensure effective communication, and can potentially eliminate e-mail (or at least decrease the amount drastically). Not only do they have excellent customer service, but their product is by far the best out there. Whether you are in a Fraternity/Sorority, RHF, VTU, or even just a small group of friends, Tatango can help your group in terms of productivity and knock down some barriers of communication.

    What is Tatango?

    • Tatango is a group text messaging service that allows any group to communicate through SMS. With one message from the computer or mobile phone, the service has the ability to reach thousands of people, instantaneously. The Tatango service doesn’t require any special phone or its users to download any software to use the service.

Their product is built for groups of all sizes. In some cases that group is a small recreational team looking to coordinate practice, and in other cases that group is a large business looking market efficiently to their customers. Every group, regardless of size, needs to communicate. They help those groups communicate better. They are a group of people who care deeply about the product we build for our customers. Clarity, quality, attention to detail and ease-of-use are at the core of everything they do. They've put this energy into every piece of Tatango, resulting in a product that makes group communication simpler than ever before.

    Big Event Interview: Dan Knisley
    Written by Brandon Carroll

With more than 5,700 volunteers and a budget around $45,000, Virginia Tech currently has the second largest Big Event nationwide. The Big Event is a student-run community service project in which students, faculty and staff give back to the community by taking on various assignments for one day.

As director of this year’s Big Event, Dan Knisley has a strong desire to improve the event and hopefully encourage more volunteers to come out this spring and help the community. In an interview with Planet Blacksburg, Knisley proved to be relatively confident with his abilities and his ideas for improvements in the Big Event.......

    He's so gay

by Paul Deyerle, SGA Director of Equity and Inclusion

The following is a story submitted to me by one of your fellow Hokies:

I am a homosexual male growing up in a heterosexual society. I feel uncomfortable almost everywhere I am. I stereotype everyone, not to discriminate, but because I need to. I use it as a defense mechanism to target my oppressors. Darwin's theory, survival of the fittest, is not archaic; it applies to my everyday life. I know the weakest person will die off and I refuse to be that person. I spend most of my day worrying. I fear the group of people that comes after me. The group is all around me, attacking me little by little with their words, but not physically just yet.

Spirit Makes Hokie Fans the Sixth Man
    Written by Brandon Carroll

As Hokies, we each fit in many circles that define our college experience.

Some of us are undergraduate researchers, others are involved in a multitude of activities, and still more content themselves with late nights at Deets preparing for the next morning's exam.

Yet, despite these varied interests, there is one aspect of our shared experience where we all come together: Hokie sports.

While we can all agree that football season leaves us with hoarse throats from yelling cheers and memories that will mark our college years, undoubtedly the rising success of our Hokie basketball program has made Cassell Coliseum a force to be reckoned with, as well.

In my role as SGA President, I have had the pleasure of speaking with many students about the athletic legacy we want to leave. From these conversations, one student in particular, Connor Forman, had a phenomenal insight.

"Brandon," Forman said. "We have the best fans in the nation for football. We could easily have the best atmosphere in the nation for basketball, too. There is just something missing."

    Orientation Speech
    Written by Brandon Carroll

Note: Every day, he would find a student and tell their story, their passion...
Just by a show of hands, how many of you already own sort of Hokie gear?

Good, good. If you have not, you will soon…trust me. Modeling our SGA Hokie Effect Shirts are two of your Orientation Leaders: Price Wootton and Shannon Austin. Price is sporting the Maroon Effect shirt. He likes long walks on the beach and is often seen jogging across campus listening to his favorite artist, Hannah Montana. To my (right/left) is Shannon Austin. She is sporting the Orange Effect shirt. She enjoys weekly candlelight dinners with the HokieBird, and swears she knows more about football than head coach Frank Beamer. Let’s give them a warm Hokie round of applause.

Allow me to start with a story.....
